Partnering for Smarter Flood Management: GCCDD Launches Flood Gauge Pilot Program
The Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District (GCCDD) is excited to announce a new partnership with Simplicity Integration on a pilot program to install eight state-of-the-art flood gauges across our jurisdiction.
These gauges will provide real-time data on water levels, helping us better understand how our creeks and drainage systems respond to storms and rainfall events. This information will strengthen our ability to make informed decisions during severe weather and improve long-term planning for flood resilience.
But this pilot program is only the beginning. Our vision is to expand this network countywide by partnering with other area entities. Together, we can create the first comprehensive flood gauge system in Galveston County—an innovative tool that will benefit residents, emergency management officials, and local governments alike.
Why this matters:
Better awareness: Residents and officials will have clearer insight into rising water levels in real time.
Faster response: Emergency services can act more quickly with precise, localized data.
Smarter planning: Long-term drainage and flood control projects will be guided by accurate measurements rather than estimates.
GCCDD is proud to lead this initiative, and we look forward to working hand-in-hand with our community partners to bring this vision to life. This pilot project is just the first step toward a smarter, safer, and more resilient Galveston County.
