Building Partnerships for a Stronger Future
This past week, our Board President and I had the opportunity to travel to Austin to share the work of the Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District (GCCDD). At its core, our mission is local—we maintain over 72 miles of creeks and countless drainage basins in the Friendswood and League City area—but the solutions to flooding and resiliency require collaboration that stretches far beyond our immediate boundaries.
That’s why partnerships are so important. When local government works hand in hand with state and regional leaders, we are better positioned to secure funding, share knowledge, and build projects that protect our communities for generations to come.
During our time in Austin, we spoke before the Texas Water Development Board about the unique challenges facing Galveston County and the Gulf Coast region. We met with the General Land Office to explore funding opportunities for projects that will improve drainage and reduce flood risk. We also sat down with several state representatives—including Rep. Jeff Barry, a strong supporter of GCCDD and our efforts to protect families and neighborhoods.
These conversations matter. Every partnership we build strengthens our ability to deliver on our promise: visionary solutions to protect homes, businesses, and the natural systems we all rely on. As we continue our work, we remain grateful for the support of leaders at every level who share our commitment to flood resiliency.
Because when it comes to protecting our communities from flooding, no one can do it alone.
